Finishing touches on my laser cut out

by Melanie

Last Friday I made the finishing touhes on my dancer cut out from the laser cutter.  It didn't take long to get it cut out, the hardest part was figuring out what size to make it, and that wasn't even bad.  Once I cut it out I used gold metallic finish and painted in the engraved lines.  I did a couple layers and scraped the excess off when I was done.  This project was much easier than I thought it would be.

Working with Isaac

by Jake

On Friday, Kaelen, Mike, Sam, and I helped Isaac with some woodwork on a crate. He taught us how to use some saws and some tips about how to measure and aline wood. I had already known most of the things he taught us because I have built a few sheds and fences previously. Before the day was over the team had finished a crate. Looking forward to working with him in the future.

Secret Tunnel update

It has been released that the secret tunnel is going to be 35 feet long! Last class Jacob and I found out how much PVC we are going to need to extend is to 35 ft. Most of the pvc is 1/2" thick, but the ends are going to be 3/4" thick which adds more complication because we'll need adapters. I think our next step is to get the suplies we need and get to building the rest of the tunnel

Binderrr

by Kelley

With my metallic paint on my slabs, I completed my covers by erasing the paint from all parts of the cover except for the grooves. It is very easy, and I discovered it by accident (my discovery was explained in an earlier post when I need to erase spray paint). I simply take any eraser and just erase all parts that are painted. You can go over the engraved part, and it leaves the engraved part painted with all other paint coming off. It is a tedious process, but the results look nice. Afterwards, I did need to touch up certain spots, but overall it was much easier than trying to paint the lines individually.

Binder continued

by Kelley

In class, I have just been continuing my work with the bullet proof biner. I had done some tests for my acryllic slab covers, using cobber paint to embellish my engraving, but right before I was about to actually paint my actual cover I decided I didn't like the look. So, I asked Mr. Shea if he could buy some silver paint for me (I thought silver would accent the blue much better). He bought me mettalic paint, and I went over the parts of my covers that were engraved in the paint, then later planning to erase the paint off the lab, leaving it in the engraved grooves.

The Apple Blossom Photos

We found some apple blossom photos that demonstrated the solar-powered soldering station that worked so well. It was the perfect combination since we were sharing the booth with the eco action class. These photos also show the busy makers soldering away. It was a great day in the sun.

Binder Reflection

After working on my binder for about 3 months, I finally finished it.  It was diffcult to make becasue it had never been made before so I had to figure things out for myself and use trial by error.  I'm really happy how it turned out, though.  If I were to make it again it would take me only about a couple days because I would know exactly what to do.  I would also get all the supplies I needed first so I could complete it fast.  It would also take me a shorter time because while I making the front and back panels, I was getting know how to the use the laser printer. I'm very proud of my project, and I hope it lasts me a long time.  I can't wait to use it for college and have the coolest binder there!

Big Wheel!!!

For the past couple classes i have been witnessing something magnificent. Austin Hay has been working on a big wheel. He has been scavenging parts from old bikes to create his big wheel. So far he has had great progress with it and i a very excited to see how it turns out and hopefully be able to ride it. I a very jealous that i didn't think of the idea first.

Attaching Plastic Hinges

On Wednesday May 09th, I attached the plastic hinges and finally put together my binder.  To attach the hinges I first held them in place using a couple pieces of tape.  Then I used the glue that I used to glue on my design on the front.  It's very easy to use and it's very strong.  I had to glue the first hinge to the front piece and the middle pieces.  Then I glued the second hinge to the back piece and the middle piece.  These were the last pieces that I needed to attach to my binder.
